Tips for someone moving to Toronto? no comments
I am planning to move to Toronto for university next year. I live about 4 hours away, still in Ontario, but I prefer the schooling in Toronto. Does anyone have any tips, helpful comments, or suggestions for me? I’d really like to be prepared and know whether I’m making the right choice or not. I already have a job set up for there; I work at a retail store and they agreed to transfer me to the store in Toronto once the move is final. If I wanted to go to the University of Toronto, where would a good apartment building be? I want something affordable and convenient.
Any help is greatly appreciated!
If money is an issue for you then take the TTC to school. You will find parking is expensive in downtown. Look for an apartment within reasonable walking distance of a subway station. Shop around
Your school should be chosen based on what you want to study. Toronto has great schools and UofT is one of them, so is York and Ryerson. They all offer programs but some are better than others. Some would argue that Western (London) or Guelph are better but it depends on the program of study.
Toronto is expensive to live it, rent in an apartment close to UofT will start at $1,000 downtown or you can rent and commute but you’ll still be paying minimum $800 further out of downtown. In Toronto affordable and convenient aren’t synonymous.
My advice, decide what you want to study, talk to you school councillor about which school is best for that stream of studies and apply there.
Toronto is a great city to live in, but will you be able to afford to live here on a retail salary and still be a full time student.
